Default Nickel problems

I purchased a nickel plating kit and plated my first parts. The parts turned out ok but they looked like chrome not nickel. They are very shinney brittle and does not take high temperatures like the nickel will.
I have my set up exactly as the book describes, amps temp etc.
My nickel parts that were made in the past have been anywhere from .007" to.020" and have always been very flexible and dull in appearance. I have heated the parts up 700 800 c and they just seem to wrinkle up and break down, the nickel parts I had done can take these temperatures very easily. The parts I made are not like this, why is this?
I can post a pic some where, is there a place to do this?
