Thread: Silvachrome question

  1. #1

    Default Silvachrome question

    Hi all,
I've been debating whether or not to jump into this, I've got a bunch of small to medium sized parts to plate, metal, plastic and aluminum.

I saw the Silvachrome kit for the first time and it looked interesting. But I have some questions first.

    1. Can Silvachrome give a near show-quality chrome finish?

    2. What are the spray guns needed? Are there specs for the nozzle sizes, etc?

    3. What sort of respirator should I wear when spraying the Silvachrome?

    4. How large an object can be sprayed?

    5. Back to the spray guns, what brands are good and where can they be bought?

Sorry for all the questions, thanks in advance!
    Owen

    1. Yes
    2. They're included (the preval units)
    3. A paint mask will be fine
    4. No size limits
    5. They're included.

    No problem. You're welcome.

Very interested in this product, have a few questions

1.) What temperatures can silvachrome withstand?

2.) Is it like a paint, if so, will orange peel be produced?

3.) Being that it's silver, will it tarnish, or is in stronger?

4.) How well does it hold up to scratching as opposed to nickle or chrome?

    Another as well.

It looks as though the primer and such is already in a compressed air bottle of some sort. Is there any use of a air compressor or gun.

Can you get just a refill of the material that allows this plating, without the jets/guns and such, or do you have to pay 175$ each time.

The kit comes with the sprayers, but you don't have to use them if you have your own air tools.

We'll be adding refill prices soon. They'll be a little cheaper than the entire kit. Most of the cost is in the liquid.

The process will withstand normal temperature ranges.

    No.

3.) Being that it's silver, will it tarnish, or is in stronger?

It has a clearcoat which prevents tarnishing.

4.) How well does it hold up to scratching as opposed to nickle or chrome?

Better, because of the clearcoat layer.

It's not a high temperature resistant product. If your part gets hot to the touch, this probably isn't the best solution for you.

    Hello all,
    Silvachrome...

It this the same process that is used on the chrome plasted plastics that most of us are familiar with or is this a more durable finish?

I am also interested in this myself and if it is the same or similar process, I am somewhat familiar with its durability.

    Thanks,
