electroplating chrom kit for rim refinish?

We are trying to purchase chrome electroplating kit for rim finishing. I was wondering if there is anyone in NYC area who has one?
How different is the real chrome from the production that you are able to complete with this kit?
Would anyone have a sample of the item that was chromed (preferebly metal)?
How dangerous for the environment is this kit?
