Copy Cad Surface Protection

Hi, I'm having difficulties getting a bright finish from my copy cad kit. It never looks like cad (just dull zinc)... still trying all kinds of tips.

If I ever get bright parts out of it, can the finish life be extended by applying a clear lacquer or similar ?
