Default Prep metal for chroming

New to metal refinishing. I just strip the paint off a piece of aluminium with a electric sander.( Big mistake) It left me with many swirl mark some deeper than others. I started with a 600 up to 1500 and used compound at the end, I still have the same results. Can someone guide me in the right direction of purchasing the proper materials to achieve the best results.

Thanks

for stripping paint I always use aircraft paint remover , works great even on powder coat
I use an orbital sander
for aluminum I start with wet 220 to 600
after 600 I start with wheels - sisal with emery down to loose with white

if you are going to plate you can now clean with some degreaser (I use CASTROL SUPER CLEAN or FORMULA 88 ) and proceed to plating steps

I think he's asking how to prep the metal for chroming, not polishing. Wish I knew how to do it, I'd assume you just want a smooth clean surface before you start plating.

You want as smooth a finish as you want the finished part to look like....
