Stainless steel plating tank

Does anyone know if plating can be done in a stainless steel tank?

From my own experience and research, I know the flash copper does ok with 316 stainless anodes. In fact, you can plate all day with 316 stainless anodes, at least until the solution depletes of copper! So as long as it's 316 stainless, and you're using flash copper, I'd say go for it.

I am not sure about the acid copper mix, or the nickel. Anyone else have any comments? I know that in general 316 is one of the more chemical resistant of all the stainless alloys.

One more bit of advice: If you're not sure what kind of stainless alloy your tanks are made of, then play it safe and DON"T use stainless tanks.

I know you do the same with gold. I just have like 1000.... 18qt stainless pots left over from my other business that I just through away. Just though I would try to put them to use.

In the plating process, there are a lot of steps other than the plating. There's degreasing, final cleaning, multiple rinses, etc. I'm sure those pots would be fine for these applications.
