Default Replating Nickel

I have an antique safe dial I'd like to replate. It is currently plated in Nickel apparantly over brass. The dial itself is made from brass.

I want a very smooth, shiny nickel finish as was teh original.

Can I replate it in nickel, or does it have to be stripped first. I saw some commercial sites that said Nickel over Nickel dosen't adhere well.

If a base coat of copper is the procedure, I want to be sure not to fill in any detail on the piece and it loked like that might be easily possible with copper.

Can someone advise the best method to proceed?

Thanks,
Scott

Strip the nickel off.

Polish the brass to a high shine, then re-plate with nickel.

OK. To confirm, striping using pickling won't harm/degrade any of the detail work on the piece (in brass)?

And are the instructions for the removeal in the plating guide?

Thanks!
Scott

Your brass will be safe.

Yes, the instructions are in the manual.

Where? I can't seem to locate the instructions for removing nickel on brass.

Thanks,

OK, I'll go hunt for it. I admit I don't have the whole thing downloaded and was using your handy "sections". They don't reference page numbers on the links, I'll peck around to se where 56 is..

Thanks,
Scott

I didn't realize you were using the Online Manual. It's in the section marked Preparing Your Solutions.
