I have an antique safe dial I'd like to replate. It is currently plated in Nickel apparantly over brass. The dial itself is made from brass.
I want a very smooth, shiny nickel finish as was teh original. Can I replate it in nickel, or does it have to be stripped first. I saw some commercial sites that said Nickel over Nickel dosen't adhere well. If a base coat of copper is the procedure, I want to be sure not to fill in any detail on the piece and it loked like that might be easily possible with copper. Can someone advise the best method to proceed? Thanks, Scott |

Strip the nickel off.
Polish the brass to a high shine, then re-plate with nickel.

I didn't realize you were using the Online Manual. It's in the section marked Preparing Your Solutions.
