This is one of the neatest effects I've seen on titanium. They call it 'heat striping.' To me it looks like old-time color case hardening.
I susepect it does involve heating as (it's not an uncommon practice for folding knife makers to 'torch' titanium on wear surfaces to improve hardness. Some dispute its usefullness, but that's another issue). Any ideas? |
