Default Brass on Chrome

I am a drum builder and I have a situation where I cannot get the parts I need in Brass (anymore). After browsing the site, I realized I am NOT the only onw in this world with the problem of having small parts, small production, and professional platers will not do it unless they charge a minimum fee....

So I figure I'll find a DIY site.....

So here I am.

The parts I have a polished chrome (See Below). To give you an idea of scale, they are 10" long

So far, I have learned that in order to coat these, I have to remove the chrome with hydrocloric acid; But how?

What kit would be ideal if I were just going to do 8 of these?

The plug N' plate kit looks ideal, I dont want to be a jerk and not buy their product, but I have a half million of wall-wart power supplies at home that I have saved from every piece of electronic gear I have ever had (ya know, in case I NEED them someday.)

Can I just get the wand and a 4oz kit and be done? (I also have about 3 dozen aligator clips at home that I bought because I needed 6 for another project. Instead of paying $2.00 each at radio Shack, I spend $15 on 4 dozen!)

The goal here is to do a "Test" run to see if I want to do this myself, if I like the results, or if I should just do a large quantity at the plating shop.

This is just a test - an experiment - so I would like to do this as cheap as I possibly can without resorting to Krylon brass spray paint!

Anyway, thanks in advance and any help at all is appreciated!

Default Re: Brass on Chrome

You reverse plate the chrome off by using the hydrochloric acid solution and stainless wand, with the connections reversed. Then you can brass plate over the nickel.

You want an adapter that puts out 4.5V. Yes, you can get a 4oz bottle and brass wand.
