Default Electrocleaning anodes?

I recently pulled my bright copper anodes and they were covered in this black like soot. Scrubbed most of it off but not all of it could be removed. Im courious as to what the other anodes look like inside their bags. Is it possable to acid dip them or electroclean them or something else? I know u can used peroxide on the chrome anodes. Thanks Ryan
