Default Motorcycle Frame Repair

Hello:
I have a motorcycle frame that is about 26 years old. Frame is chromemoly and was nickle plated at sometime. The plating is in Ok shape. The frame will need to have a patch(repair) welded to one of the frame tubes. The metal patch will be of chromemoly. I want to re-nickle just the patched area. The patch will be about 1" x 4" . Question: Can I use the Plug and Plate kit? Anyone tried this before? My goal is to match the original nickle coloring, and make the patch blend-in with the surrounding area. Any help appreciated.
