Default Chrome repair/patch/seal

I have a motorcycle. One of the chrome exhaust shroud brackets is very close to another part of the bike. I want to trim part of the bracket (round a squared corner) so that the clearance is greater then it presently is.
Obviously, the "trimming" process will break the chrome "seal" on this part. My question is, must I rechrome the entire shroud/bracket assy or can I rechrome just the exposed area where the "seal" is broken. I'm not concerned that a small part of the bracket might be a different color--can I simply "seal" that portion where I've broken the "seal" with another of your products.
I'm new to this whole business of plating, kindly forgive my ignorance.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to do here.

I am pretty positive that I know what you are trying to accomplish. I had a similar problem with a friend of mine that needed to trim a swingarm axle cover in order to install a side mount license plate bracket. Here's how I did it.

Bought a 6 dollar pack of cut off discs for my dremel. Trimmed the part close to the desired shape, and then used an EXPAND A WHEEL that I bought from CASWELL to shape and smooth the roughness of the cut. The cut off discs worked really well and did not damage any of the plating on the surface. I then brush plated the edge that was cut with nickel just to seal the metal at the cut and prohibit corrosion.

It was very simple and turned out really well.
