I read the above in another tread. Can I use muriatic acid to remove rust?(small spots/pits left over after whireweel) I have bought 1 liters of 30% muriatic acid. At what ratios do I mix this acid with water to make a bath to dip the part in and for how long? any scrubbing before the DPdegreaser? Do I just rince the parts in water afterwords and then dip in DPdegreaser? Any heat? If I want to remove zink or cadmium at what mix do I use the muriatic acid? I am going to use 3% battery acid in the yellow chromate solution. My manual said nothing about haviong to mix the water and chromate crystals with acid for it to work!! But I sent a mail to Cadwell and they told me to use batery acid. Thanks for all the valuable help at this forum!! John |

You definitely should NOT mix any acid with the yellow chromate....with one caveat. I notice you're in the UK, and our UK distributor supplies his own chrome bearing chemicals because it's very hard to ship them from the USA to him. That being said, he may have a slightly different formula for mixing stuff, and also using it. Please check with him.
A 20-30% acid:water ratio will work for rust removal and removing old zinc plate. This information is in the manual, under Acid Pickles.

Thanks Lance
I have a copy of the page in the manual (was not in my manual) that was sent to me from Caswell Europe yesterday and there is no question about it, the manual says to mix batteryacid in the yellow chromate crystals and water. Mr. Jeep also told me in the mail he sent me. From their mail to me: Page 103 of the manual describes the approach to using the Yellow Chromate. You have not put the sulphuric acid in and so it cannot etch on the zinc. Who is right? best John |

Like I said, he's probably using a different yellow chromate than we sell in the USA, so I would follow his instructions.
Make sure to mention this when asking for help on the forum, or from us in the USA - could lead to some confusion otherwise.

Thanks Mr. Cadwell, I didnt know there where differences between US and Euro kits. I will follow their instruction. First I will continue to try to get a metal look on the plated parts and not the light gray non shiny surface I have managed so far(it almost look like its spray painted with flat light gray paint?)

Sorry for mixing up Cad and Cas Mr. Caswell, it was not intentionaly.
Thanks for all your help. I talked to your UK representative today, he was very helpfull and explained some stuff to me, and there apparently is some differences in the kits so I will follow his instructions now and see if I get a better result. Thank you John |
