Default copy cad solution

How long should I expect the zinc (copy cad) solution to last before it's diluted? Is it ok to add fresh water to the tank to maintain the correct level?

Peter;
NEVER add "fresh" (tap) water.. ALWAYS use Distilled Water to top-up your tank.. Assuming you are using the Caswell "buckets", it's a wise move to mark the "full level" in the outside of the bucket, using a Sharpie or Marks-A-Lot..
I read somewhere in the Caswell Plating Manual that the solution will last for "X Number" of square inches of plating, be dipped if I can find that info now..

The electrolyte itself should last indefinitely. It does not wear out or "expire" w/age.

If your liquid level is dropping due to evaporation, then yes, you can top it off w/more water.

But if your liquid level is dropping due to "dragout" (electrolyte remaining on the parts when you remove them), that needs to be replenished w/fresh solution.

Let your parts drain off well over the tank before going to rinse, and you won't lose much at all.

Thank you for your reply. I only use distilled water in my tanks. I will pay more attention when I remove the parts from the tank. I must say, this site and your knowledge on the subject has helped me through fustrating times. At this time the results are what I expected when I purchased the kit. Before that things were a bit dicey, burnt parts etc. I'm more organized now.

Peter
