Removing chrome

How do you remove chrome from aluminum rims? I have heard that if the platers strip chrome in a chemical bath it will activate the aluminum and make it very difficult to stop oxidization even if it is polished. There must be something that will neutralize the chemical process. Help!
I have done it the hard way with sandpaper but the key word is "hard"

By using a weak solution of muriatic acid and a stainless steel or lead sheet, you can reverse plate the chrome off. Because chrome plate is a very thin layer, the chrome is stripped very quickly. You can also buff the chrome off with an abrasive compound, such as emery.

If you expose bare aluminum to air, it will oxidize. This isn't a result of using a stripper, this is the result of the aluminum being exposed. The only way to prevent it is to clearcoat, anodize or plate it.

Thank you...will this also remove the nickel plate and copper as well.

Weak sulfuric acid for removing nickel plate.

Copper is trickier. We don't recommend chemically stripping copper, as it requires some really nasty chemicals.

Buff or blast it off instead.

So you need 1 bathes and a still need to sand it off. The piece that I am going to do has many internal chamber. I am doing an Alluminum paintball gun body that was nickel plated. So I need a piece of steel and a weak bath of sulfuric acid. Now the internal diameter of the part is very sensitive to changes. Is there a safer alternative to removing the underlying copper coating? or is there an all-in-one step to remove both coatings?
