Reactivating nickel problems
I have a question about losing my water break when activating nickel plate in the 3:1 sulfuric acid distilled water solution. I had what appeared to be very good water break, I put the part in the acid to activate it and lost my water break. If I have to re-clean a part do I need to activate it again? I also am not getting the frosted appearance that I've read about. Part is being cleaned in a ultrasonic cleaner with dawn and ammonia, then scrubbing with softscrub. The base metal is brass. Any guidance will be greatly appreciate.

You may be seeing the effects of the Dawn wetting agents when you first clean and rinse. The acid is stripping the agents but the part is still covered in soaps. Try using the suggested cleaner and procedure.
