nickel plating brass locks - Plating Powder Coating Buffing Anodizing

hi I am a wooden box maker from the uk and was wanting to nickel plate some hardware made from brass. I was thinking of using the Electroless Nickel Kit as I heard it is better for getting into all the nooks and crannies for a much more even coat, is this the right method for me?

Electroless nickel will work fine for this. You will have to activate the brass with some sort of steel rod. A bolt will work . As long as it's something steel. Just touch the brass with the rod until it starts to activate.

can you explain why I have to touch with the steel I would just like to understand the process a bit better.

All copper alloys need to be charged with steel to make the chemical process work. Any non copper alloys will take plating on their own.
