Default Triple Chrome Kit

I just received the 4 gal tripple Chrome kit. The Copper crystals say to mix contents of bag with 1 gal distilled water and this should make two gallons. The kit came with two bags but they don't fill the tank to 4 gallons more like 3 gallons. Also the nickle crystals say makes 2 gallons per bag there are two bags but doesn't say how much water to mix. If I add 1 gallon of distilled water per bag it doesn't equal 4 gallons closer to three and the brightner treats 4 gallons. The flash copper and the Chrome fill the tanks to the four gallon mark and a little beyond. So what I am trying to say is the copper crystals mixed per instructions do NOT equal 4 gallons and the Nickle crystals am I to add distilled water till it reaches the 4 gallon point.

John

Are you sure you're reading the label correctly? In order to make 4 gallons of copper solution, you need to add 4 gallons of water to the crystals.

The same for the nickel. If each bag makes 2 gallons, then you need to add 2 gallons of water for each bag.

Also, make sure it's distilled water, not water from the faucet or bottled water, or well water.

OK that makes sense for the nickle but the acid copper says to mix with one gallon of distilled water, 12oz of battery acid, and enclosed bottle of brightener. The kit came with two bags....Is the label wrong? The weight of the bag is 3 lbs. This will only make about 3 gallons of plating bath when both bags are added with two gallons of distilled water. It doesn't add up. Should there be more crystals or is the label wrong. Plus when I put the part I flashed coppered into the acid copper it became discolored immediatley before I even hooked up the current.

Thanks
John

PS. Do I even need the acid copper or can I build up with flash copper (which works extremely well)

I checked the label and it says:

MIX WITH 2 GAL DISTILLED WATER, 24 oz battery acid
& the enclosed bottle of brightener

This is for each bag.

If you've flash coppered the part, you don't need to acid copper plate it. Sure, you can use Flash Copper to build up the part.
