Just about any base or acid will act as a wetting agent as long as it's soluble in the solution and matches the ph. I use H2SO4 as a wetting agent/pre-treat for plating brass and copper but the Pickle#4 sold by Caswell's might be a better choice. But, I'll defer your question to Caswell.

Thanks CarWiz. I run a Nickelmax setup (pretty much an industry standard mix here in Aus) along with the caswell copy chrome and note that maintenance on theis setup involves addition of wetter as well as brightener. I still have re-charges of copy chrome brightener and just wondering if I should be adding additional wetter?

Add wetter... makes a huuuuuuuuuge difference. get a sample of any nickel solution in a small container and shake... if it gets a head of froth that disipates real quick you should add wetting agent. The plate comes out much smoother, like chalk and cheese. wetting agent also helps eliminate hydrogen bubbles forming on horizontal edges.
Still curious to know if the Caswell baths contain wetting agents or not? Someone do the shake test perhaps? |

I'm not sure what a wetting agent is? I have copy chrome that foams with aeration on, and seems to foam worse when the pH starts to get high.
I've added small amounts of brightener, which usually seems to speed up the need to add muriatic acid to lower the pH... which in turn requires a little hydrogen peroxide to eliminate the rough plate. |

The brightener does contain a wetting agent in the formula.
