Smile Rectifiers in UK ?

Hi All,

Great site isn't it ?. The experience and knowledge on this site is staggering. I hope I can draw on this experience with my question....
Have been brush plating different finishes for a year now and want to move up a gear and focus on Chrome plating, you know, the usual suspects, rocker covers, cam belt covers, bike engine covers, engine brackets etc. Will not be doing very large parts like wheels. Will be ordering Triple Chrome plating kit shortly - was looking at the 4 gallon kit - would this be large enough for the items I intend to plate and any idea which size rectifier I should use and can I get one in the UK ?
Sorry for the long post !
Any help gratefully appreciated.

4 gal kit ( US 4 gal = 15.14 litres) isn't big enough to do the average cam cover. you are looking at being able to do a piece no bigger than 200 x 200 and even that would be pushing it. I run 25L round tanks (not chrome) and can do nuts bolts brackets, starter motor parts, thermostat housings, distributors, alternators....etc. All these sorts of parts would be ok in the 15 litre setup, 1 piece at a time.

with rectifiers, I would suggest you work out the largest piece you would consider doing calculate its surface area in inches and multiply by a bit more than 1 to work out maximum current, If it ends out being less than 60 amps you should have no problem sourcing a 30Vdc 60A bench top power supply for a reasonable price.

I outsource all my chrome work and stick to zinc and various chromates, copper, nickel, nickel cobalt. All relatively user friendly and safe.

Cheers

Mark
