Default bright zinc plate cover coating
i want to plate a part in bright zinc and not yellow chromate,

what do i cover the zinc plate with to protect it?

Blue chromate leaves the item with a hint of blue and provides reasonable protection.

Is the part subject to much heat or wear?

If not you can always polish the zinc finish and then clearcoat with a good quality laquer.

If you polish zinc to a mirror finish without breaking through it, it is quite durable anyway I zinc plate and polish OEM exhaust heat shields and they hold up very well.
