What is dichromate and how is it applied??

wondering, i want to finish a carb. read about this, what is it exactly,?? Where do you get it and how is it applied??

It's a chrome based coating that is applied on a zinc plate in a separate bath. It's a simple dip, with no power required. It adds significant corrosion resistance and optional color to a zinc plated part.

I have the yellow, makes the carbs. look to fakey for me, i want a darker copper color , any ideas on this?? Yes i have tryed soaking parts longer with no results i want. Trying to achieve more of a darker brownish color.

Mr. Pontiac like you I am a Pontiac guy and have been trying to chromate some tripower carb bodies plus some WCFBs. I put a post in "Other Metal Finishes" today with pictures of some tripower carbs and a couple of WCFBs that I did yesterday. I want the bodies I do to come out with a gold tint. I have an old NOS Rochester top and it is definitely gold. The first two to four I dip in a new batch of chromate do have the right tint but after that they start getting darker and darker gray. The WCFBs seem to want to be lighter in color whereas the Rochesters dark gray. I can't imagine that I can do only four bodies per chromate batch and if that is so I will just go back to spraying with Eastwood's Bronze Carb Renew.

Anyway I just thought I'd let you know I'm trying to do the same thing you are. If I come up with THE method I will send you a PM and I would appreciate the same.
