Cant activate EN

Hi I cant activate my electroless nickel. I have tryed gold plating on it and i can see a tiny hint of gold under certain lights.
I have tryed activater and even SS activator but nothing works.
I have noticed a slight change in the metal aswell.
Before I tryed it was polished to a mirror shine but now some parts look a little blury
What should I be doing to correct this does anyone know
I normaly dont have any problems plating but this has been a terrible week for me
