Default Which kit should I get? 1st post. Please help...

I can't decide for my first kit if I should get the copy chrome kit or the 2 gal. triple chrome kit?

I know the copy kit is cheaper but what about durability and shine? Is there a difference? I will be mainly plating small Harley parts and some small car engine parts. I would rather spend more if it is truely worth the difference...

Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance.

Durability is the same between the kits. The durability from a real chrome plate (Triple Chrome) comes from the nickel layer underneath. Copy Chrome is a modified nickel plate.

The only reason to get a triple chrome kit is if you need a REAL chrome plate, for show reasons or customer demands.

I take it then that there is a difference in the overall finish, If one of the reasons for needing a triple kit is for show reasons?!? If this is true then how much of a difference is there?

No, not really. Some customers simply want the real thing because they want the restoration to be 100% authentic.

I'm thinking about getting the 2 gal copy chrome kit for now until I can afford to get the 4 gal triple kit. Do you think this is a good decision or should I wait and just get the triple kit??

I know that if I get the triple kit later I can chrome over the copy chrome peices if I wish to, correct?

thanks for your help

Practice makes perfect with this process. The sooner you get started doing plating of any kind, the sooner you start learning. I'd get the Copy Chrome kit now and then "upgrade"

Yes, you can chrome over Copy Chrome.
