    Default Nickel Allergy

My wife suffers from nickel allergy, which causes severe contact dermatitis. Will the gold plating kits, either 18kt or 24kt, help? In other words, will the nickel from sterling silver or white gold be able to migrate through to her skin?

The gold will protect her, but you'll have to keep checking the item for signs of wear of the plating. I would say if you have a known allergy to nickel, try to find a different base material to wear.

    According to wiki-
White gold contains white metal- either nickel or palladium.
Sterling silver is an alloy of silver and copper.

Silver and Nickel are like oil and water, you can only alloy them in small quanities and since it so small people usually use it only to harden or bleach the silver. 99% of the time you will not find and Ni in Ag...now white gold try to buy palladium or Platnium rings....another thing they do Is rhodium plate it...but I would just buy different materials , Ni free to start with.

    Thumbs up Re: Nickel Allergy

    Hello,
Sorry to hear about your wife. I suffer for years with "nickel itch" and spent alot money on doctors and medicine. If she allergic to nickel tell her stay away from it! My wife help me to get rid of this problem with a simply treatment. Squeeze lime juice (the small ones) into a cup; add small amount of sugar until it turns into a paste. Apply it to the affected area and allow it to dry. After about twenty minutes, rinse with clean and allow drying. She will feel the texture of her skin soft. Repeat this treatment until you start see results. It's cheap and at first I did not believe it but now I do and I pass this to people who suffer from this problem. I am a chemist.
