I've heard of deposition of metal that has reached it's gas state, using a carbon heating element and vacuum. The part itself is cooler in the "chamber" and when the gaseous metal hits it, it is deposited. It isn't deposited uniformly, and well beyond the melting point of metal. Doesn't sound like too much fun, certainly not anything to even think of at home.
