Default Help with masking this?

Any ideas for painting the textured area while leaving the chrome exposed on the top of the mini fins and letters? I've read about coating the areas with wax or grease, then removing afterward, but I'm not to sure about that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've got some shaky hands too, as I thought about taping and cutting be that usually results in disaster.

It's called enameling or cold enameling if you're using paint. I've done auto badges by filling the areas with paint using a syringe. ... And a magnifying lamp. Around here you can get equestrian syringes at the feed or farm stores then grind the tip off the needle. (Pretty safe as I don't think anyone would want to use that size for anything else.)

Work on a level surface and slowly inject the paint in the middle of the areas. It flows up to raised areas. You might have to help it along by zig-zagging the needle through the paint. I used thinned pinstripe paint.

Do I need to use adhesion promoter or primer with that method?
