Ben, There is no substitute for genuine chrome as far as it's ability to not tarnish. Copy Chrome is a great product thats safer and easier to use, but it will discolour over time and as you stated require polishing to keep it looking good. Clear coating works well providing the items are not subject to heat. Over time heat will cause the copy chrome to go bluish brown under the clear coat just like chrome and stainless steel. Unfortunately to clean it and polish it the clear coat needs to be stripped. I use urethane 2 pac paint over polished and plated metals. This includes "candy" or translucent coloured clear. VHT clear and other clear acrylics from a spray can are fine for items not subjected to hard wear. 2 Pac is the way to go as it is chemical resistant. Cheers. Mark

KCV6, I've seen several of your posts on the forum and was hoping you could help me. I currently machine small parts for motorcycles and then custom engrave them for the customer. I then either hand polish or powder coat them, again in whatever the customer wants. I want to get into chroming, but the triple plating scares me with all the EPA regulations. I've been reading thru the forum about copy chrome, but am really concerned about the quality and durability of copy chrome. Motorcycles take a lot of weather abuse, rain, wind and sun, not to mention road dirt hitting it. will copy chrome hold up under these conditions? I understand about having to rebuff the part to bring back the shine, but will clear coating them help mantain the shine and whats the best product to use for clear coating? thanks for your time and imput.
