Had to quote some pieces a couple days ago! and the guy like the price and gave me a green light. Of course he like the price. I've only bartered for some beer a while back. Not used to money. More of a first one's free, after that it'll cost you. Received a link to this guy from...can't share that one. So I said a while back that I'd write everyday. So much for that, I don't think anyone reads this anyways. More of a way for me to keep track of things. Like the other day, I tried Aluminum...

Here we go, again.
Cast Aluminum sucks. Better yet, anything cast sucks. I had this stupid little oil pressure gauge that I polished up (pics of it in last blog). Got out the de-smut/de-oxidizer as it's so old (the piece is from 1980, probably loaded with alloy). Cleaned it with greased lightning, this stuff works ok as long as you do it just after buffing. Rinsed it well, sprayed it a couple times too. De smutted it. Rinsed it. Zincated it. Waited for the bubbles. Waited....

Okay, so I pulled a piece out from the green ceramic pyramids. Things seemed to be going okay, and thought I'd see if they had cut down the time needed on the buffing wheel. I can't say that it was a dramatic change, but it has improved. But there is finer media yet. I've yet to try starting with a rougher ceramic, rougher than green at least. But so far, seems to be paying off. Right now the machine is running with plastic beads that have some type of carborendum applied to them. Have to...

Really not much to say today. It's rather late, just got home. The tumbler was filled with a slush of aluminum from the cutting action; so I cleaned it out, and am running it for a while longer. It seems to slow down the cutting action, because it was soo thick in there. I can see why some units have and input and output hose connection to continually flush the system out. So far, it's cutting down the aluminum well, and now sign of the ceramic pyramids breaking down at all.

Okay, so the walnut shells did little. I figured as much, it made the pieces feel smoother, but not much. Soo, I threw in the green ceramic triangles. Time to tear some stuff up. It was evident after about 5 minutes that it cuts really quickly. It's quite a bit noiser now. I tossed in the same pieces from the kaw as I did yesterday. I'll post some photos after each stage of tumbling. There is just too much detail for ordinary polishing. A little too much gets lost after hitting it with...
