    Question Polishing Stainless sheet?

Right...could do with some help & info on this...

Has anyone ever tried to polish stainless Steel sheet with a rotary car polisher..heres why I'm asking..

I have to polish a sheet of stainless steel to a mirror finish and its way too heavy to hold up to my polishing wheel...at least for any lenght of time.

So was thinking is it possible to lay the piece down on tressels and use a 240v rotary polisher.....getting the surface up to 1500g first with sandpaper....then not sure what to use as a polishing head...wool mop maybe?...have a few old ones from vehicle polishing...

Has anyone else had to go this route or something similar...

Any help would be greatly appretiated

    Regards

    Col

Go for it, I do it all the time for final finish with both nickel and chrome after I plate them, it doesn't leave any where near the marks that a buffing wheel does.
    Here's what I use-
Dewalt VS buffer - ~1700 rpm
3M Extra Cut compound - yes for paint - works great!
3M Swirl mark remover - same thing.
I use a wool pad, same one I use for paint - just obviously use a dedicated pad.

I've also done the same compounds with a 3" foam waffle, it leaves more ''evidence'' (fine lines) that it was polished.
Experiment with other compounds, but that's what I had on hand and was really impressed with the results. Works just as well on copper if you ever come across that. It will dull aluminum that was finished with a blue rouge - but leaves little ''evidence'', but always brings everything else up better.
The other good thing is that the compound is soo much easier to clean up.

Thanks James...going to give it a try.. I have most of the farecla range G7, G4, G3, G10 and scratch X so might give them a go first see if they do anything.. I think my polisher will spin up to around 8000rpm I think, so plenty of speed there.

    Cheers
