Yeah, I agree, there is probably some residue compound on the rake.. I've never had (or noticed) it producing any problem of cross-contamination, especially after I went to "dedicated" wheels (for each compound). It's a "never say never" type thing. Now, that said, I don't know if there is any such thing as being "too paranoid" about cross-contamination. Vigilance in one's cleanliness is a key to proper polishing & buffing. I've found that wiping down a buffed piece with acetone helps my procedure, especially on the occasions when I get some unexpected "black build-up" on the part, and always between compound changes. It's a "cheap insurance" thing.. Bottom line is one does what works best for him (or her).
