Default Re: Question about your Extra Long Shaft Adapters..

I'll clarify what I meant in my previous post about the sanding rakes. When I said "accumulation" of buffing compounds on the teeth, I didn't mean large black, gummy accumulation. Rather, I meant that while the teeth may look shiny clean, when I rub a cloth down the length of the teeth, a residue will rub off onto the cloth. So, I was thinking that over time, this stuff would sort of accumulate or mix with residues from other compounds unless washed off. Maybe I'm too paranoid about cross contamination . .

Tony;
Yeah, I agree, there is probably some residue compound on the rake.. I've never had (or noticed) it producing any problem of cross-contamination, especially after I went to "dedicated" wheels (for each compound). It's a "never say never" type thing.
Now, that said, I don't know if there is any such thing as being "too paranoid" about cross-contamination. Vigilance in one's cleanliness is a key to proper polishing & buffing. I've found that wiping down a buffed piece with acetone helps my procedure, especially on the occasions when I get some unexpected "black build-up" on the part, and always between compound changes. It's a "cheap insurance" thing..
Bottom line is one does what works best for him (or her).
