I first clean well with acetone and then wash thoroughly with hot soapy water. The acetone gets off the majority of the old compound and the soapy water gets off the trace that is left dissolved in the dried acetone.

When polishing the stainless steel brake rotors, what would you folks suggest as a cleaner? It appears I need to wipe the rotor between steps of each compound in order to get a cleaner, brighter finish.
Any and all suggestions will be much appreciated

overall if you have a lot of compound left on the part you are applying to much compound on the wheel
As Above, but remember to let the Acetone & soapy water dry fully before your laoding your wheel with the next compound.
Secondly remember to use an appropriate means of applyinmg the acetone such as a lint free cloth, nothing worse than all that hard work and a old rag has hidden debris in and you scratch your metal, easy to do on the softer types of metals.
