Default Not a newbe but need some help

    Ok guys,

I have a set of mercedes wheels that I have polished and will be clear coating. The wheels look great but have tiny micro scratches all over the face of them. I know if I clear coat over this the scratches will be even more visible. I finished the wheel off with white compound and a loose wheel on my caswell flex shaft. What do I need to do for these scratches. I really need to get a scratch/haze free finish but dont know where to go with it !! these micro scratches are from the wheels these are NOT sanding scratches. Also, since I have to change directions so much using the flex shaft, I get tons of haze does anyone got a suggestion for this?

    Thanks,
    John

I am kinda new but the haze that I have had is always compound or compound and material left behind. if you did not clean the haze when going to a finer compound the grit from the previous compound will remain. that may be where the scratches are coming from. I have used pre and a micro cloth straight from the bag to wipe away haze and clean around corners where old material may get into my buff. now that the weather is getting nicer I may try power washing and blow drying parts between compounds so they are never touched by anything but the buffs before clear.

I have polished some aluminum, but mostly do stainless. mk1a sounds dead on to me. Whenever I have scratches or haze it always goes away when I go back a few steps and sand or buff more thoroughly, and clean better. When I have done all of the steps thoroughly, and clean well between each, the final buff is scratch free.

Looks good from here, great job! I get the finest scratches no matter what I do. It's too much time for me to screw around on the buffer chasing down the swirl marks. The best I've found is to get a little hook and loop 3" sander - harbor freight has them - pneumatic. I use the foam pad and just buff out with paint rubbing compound, and then use a fresh foam pad with machine glaze remover. If that doesn't get it I cut a 3" circle from microfiber and use that - it secures itself onto the H&L pad.
