first off use different wheel for each compound since you are using the drill i would suggest to find a way to hold your compound bar on your workbench or somewhere close to your work piece , that way your not going to have to hold the drill i one hand while the other is holding the compound bar.
now that you have that bar tightly secured start your drill and bring the buffing wheel in contact with the compound bar with enough pressure for the compound to load on the wheel and then start buffing , with a little practice you will know how much compound to add to your wheel to get the best results .

Ahh thats OK bud thanks for the help though!

Would anyone else know? I have some small very fine scratches i'd say around 400 or 600grit scratches so should I use the black bar first?

If you have 400 grit, or 600, scratches you should use emery, which is what your black most likely is. If you have 400 scratches after sanding up to 1500, it indicates you are not sanding enough in each stage. You must sand out all scratches left by the previous grit before you move on or what you will have is polished scratches.

    I never sand beyond 600.
