I am trying to polish a tail light housing from a 67 Ford Fairlane. The piece seems to have a "textured chrome" look to it. It seems like a layer on top of the aluminium itself...would this be adonizing? If it is, how can it be removed besides sanding?
Thanks for the help! |

I had a '69 lincolin with thw same problem. Mine where made of a cast aluminum that was really cheap and pourus, with some sort of chrome coating. After 30 years of being exposed it had corrosion under the coating and pimple like pertrusions were visible. I was never able to repolish them. instead i had them blasted and re chromed. If the aluminum in your case is better i would have it blasted and you can try to repolish it. The only thing i would really worry about is wearing any sharp edges down that give it it's squarness durring sanding and blasting before you polish. good luck

sorry i went off the topic .... now for anodize remover ... oven clean will remove it quick most high end stripes work but for the problem i can see that you are talking about you can glass bead it and wet sand up to 1000 grit then hit is with brown or had it chromed .. but the car maker's did the trim in diecast alot of times either way it can be polished but having it rechromed will make it look more stock |
