Stop!!!!!!
you Don't want to use a sisal on soft metals ... it will tear them up ...
use this step ....
brown/sprial
green/loose cotton
red/loose cotton
if you are still getting scratches
white/loose
then the green then the red
i am trying to learn how to polish brass and copper. I am using a 1hp buffer at 3500 rpm. i have been starting with a black compound with a sisal wheel and going through brown white and finally a red rouge. after my final polish prior to clearing i am seeing very small lines that are only amplified by the clear coat. what am i doing wrong and why cant i eliminate these lines. any help would be greatly apreciated.

I was told that 1800 RPM is appropriate for polishing brass and that 3450 is too fast. Does the thickness of the brass matter. What about wheel diameter. If I can pick the wheels and machine.... is a larger diameter wheel and a slower buffer the best combination?
