Default Ok,what am I doing wrong

I just started polishing my coil covers on my mustang. They where just bare cast aluminum, that ford uses.I'm having problems polishing, without getting very fine scratches with all compounds. The piece is very shiny, and smooth just has those scatches.Heres how i did it thus far.

I started out handsanding with 80 grit. Then I moved onto 80,120,then 220 grit greaseless compounds. Then I wet sanded up to 600 grit. Then tripoli on spiral sewn cut then color motion, white on loose section color motion.

I use a different wheel, gloves, and rake for every compound. They are all kept in there own labeled ziplock bag.I rake the wheels after every use.I am using a 1/2 hp 3450 rpm bench grinder converted to a buffer, using 6" wheels.I am applying compound about every 3 minutes, with a 2 second touch.

How can I avoid these very fine scatches?

    Thanks
    Mike
