Default Magnesium

I've been told that you can't really get a good brilliance on magnesium. Anybody know anything?

Also, any reliable way to tell mag from aluminum?

Thanks.

you can polish magnesium and it will sign as well as any other type of metal that has been correctly polished, I do motorcycle engine covers made of mag and the trick is to glass bead it, then use a spiral sewn with white compound trying not to drag or cause too much heat.

If you say so - haven't tried any yet that I know of, but want to be ready in case.

Now, how do you tell for sure whether it is mag or aluminum? Agree with pickle?
