Default What is this finish called?

I don't know the name or tools that are neede to produce the finish.....here goes.The entire surface is multiple swirls,not deep but enogh to make them stand out.What is this called, & how & what is neede to do this?.....thanks to anyone that knows what I'm talking about.

It's called "Engine Turning"

Do a google search, lots of web sites are out there.

also known in the firearms circles as jeweling.

Jeff, I'm a toolmaker & I do it like this:
Cut a piece of wooden dowel & chuck it up in a drill press. Take some rubbing compound & apply it to the dowel (just dip it in) turn the drill press on low-medium speed 100-200 rpms will work. hold the part on the table with your fingers (CAREFUL!) Bring the dowel down onto the part, not too hard. Move the part a little, press it again. Do this in any pattern you want, with a little experimenting & practice, you can make some cool designs!
