Question 8'' grinder help

hello all,
after being quoted $237 just for shipment of a buffer to the uk,it has been hard trying to get a reasonable buffer in the uk i have now looked at the following grinder that says 8'' buffing wheels can be fitted to it.

please can you guys give me advice on what i need to extend the wheels for extra space once i take off the grinding wheels. is this called an arbour, and if possible where can i purchase them.
many thanks
brian

grommit,

I believe that Caswell's has store in the UK, not 100% sure. You might wait until they pickup on this thread!

grinders work in a pinch, but do yourself a favor and get a buffing machine. The grinder doesn't have enough grunt, trust me I started off with one. It was like night and day moving to the buffing machine. I find it hard to believe that you can't find a buffer in the UK. Get out the phone book and look around. If nothing else, you would be better off getting a 1hp motor, some pulleys, a solid 3/4" dia. shaft and a couple of pillow blocks and making your own.

thanks m8,
its not that its hard to find one as it was taking ages on the net to find one you know what its like, page after page on Google...i have bidded for one on ebay, a one with a stand, but its a few hundred mile trip just to see it and test the bearings etc. if i am the winning bidder,i have emailed him for the full spec. but am still waiting.
ya right it'll be the yellow pages (our phone book) and track one down,i will get there..eventually, i'll keep you posted.
many thanks
brian
