Default dumb@ss newbie ?s....

Got a new chrome peice for my bike in the mail and it had some strange dark discoloration on it. I took a loose wheel with some blue compound and polished it out, it took a little bit but it finally came out, however it left some very fine micro scratches in my chrome. Is there anyway to get my mirror finish back or am I just going to have to live with it? If it wasn't a new piece I wouldn't even care, very hard to see unless the light hits it just right, but it is a new piece and I'm a little dissapointed in myself for messin it up.....

Try a canton flannel wheel and a lower speed.

Well, tried the talcum powder trick and it helped, enough that I can barely see any of the scratching, I can live with it.

Yeah, you get to a point it isn't worth the extra time.

I never got the powder to work too well...haven't tried the kerosene yet.

I've forgotten the exact usage - I believe it was used to lubricate during the emery stage. I just did a search but don't have time to refine it right now - but it's there in the archives somewhere...
