I have some aluminum covers on an old chopper I am restoring... What is the best way to remove cracked and pitted clearcoat? I have been told NOT to use any type of acid based remover (spray-on). Also how good is that clear coat (VHT?). If I polish these now, can I cure them in my oven at say 350* or so? This engine won't run for a few more months and I don't want to have to redo it. Thanks for the help! Brian

We sell a clearcoat remover for this purpose. http://www.caswellplating.com/clearcoat.htm
The VHT is an excellent product. We've sold lots of it for this purpose.
