Default Polishing a 66 Nova grill

Hello, Has anybody polished a grill with a bench mounted buffer? I have 3/4 hp buffer and spiral sewn wheels. I have finished all the stainless and now have the grill to do. I will remove all the anodizing with oven cleaner. What I need to know is the best wheel for the job, one that will not try to grab the grill and tear it out of my hands I have not tried the spiral sewn yet. I thought maybe a loose wheel. Thanks from, Scared to try it in Missouri LOL!

66nogo2,

I would say use a pneumatic die grinder with 1" to 4" buffs. You want to be able to adjust the speed. Lacking that I would use a 3/8" electric drill motor with an assortment of buffs IE: 1" up to 4" sewn buffs, treated and untreated, facer buffs and felt buffs. You might even need a Dremel with smaller buffs. I wouldn't use a 3/4 hp pedestal buff, like you said if it grabs the grill its a goner!
Make sure when buff near the edges that you buff with the edge not against the edge. You sure don't want it to catch!

John

Thanks John. I guess I better invest in an assortment of small items. I have the air grinder, dremel, and drill so I suppose that should cover all those corners I still might try the big buffer for the long flat areas, maybe. I will make sure my head is clear before I try though!
