I recently had my bumper re-chromed on an old car. While changing battery cables I made a rookie mistake and drug the positive cable across the new chrome. It made a nice 4" long arc mark across the chrome. The cable traded some copper to the chrome and pitted it quite deep. I sanded the deposits off and can see that the chrome seems to be gone down to the nickel and some copper is also showing.
Is this repairable? Can I polish this area and expect it to look descent and not rust? What are my options? Please help. Chris. |

No fix for that other than re-plating it that I know of (sorry). You could feather the damage down with sandpaper like a paint repair and spray it with some kind of aluminum-colored paint for the time being. I don't know if it's possible to "spot plate" a small area and have it come out decent, but I doubt it.
