Default Sanding the hard spots.

I am polishing an engine case for an old Triumph. I have went through all of the cartridge rolls all the way to the 120. What is the best method for sanding the tight corners with a finer grit paper. I really don't want to have to sand by hand but will if I have to. Any Ideas?

Thanks, D.J.

I've used cartridge rolls up to 320 grit. After that you can switch to cratex bits. They're a rubberized small bit that come in different shapes and sizes.

68commando is an unknown quantity at this point

I have been working on all the aluminum parts on my 69 Commando and have been working on the corners, etc by hand. Once you get to 220 it is not too bad, just takes a while. Sometimes I will wrap the paper around a round file or pencil or some other small cylinder and just go at it for the inside corners. I see some people use the felt bobs and you could try it with the greasless compound which should get you to 400. Once you get that far it is not bad to go by hand through 600, 1000, 1200.

68commando, chcustom

A few of things to try: first would be a Razor edged buff which is 1/8" thick by 4" diameter. Second you can try 1/8" wide buffs in a 1" to 2" diameter, either treated or untreated. You can use these with greaseless or for buffing compound. Third they make cartridge rolls in 1/4" diameter in different grits that will work real well. You will have to get a different mandrel to use these because of their diameter. And along with what sswee states the Cratex will work also.

The ones I get use the same mandrel as the larger ones.
