Streaks in SS firewall

Hi all. I'm polishing a SS firewall using the Caswell SS polishing kit. All is going well except that I can't seem to get rid of what looks like streaks. I think it is slightly un-eaven polished vertical lines. I'm using an Hitachi 3400 rpm 6" buffer . I'm at the stage of using the green SS compound with just the color cut. I'm polishing only vertically on the firewall. Should I be using some other pattern such as alternating 90 deg? I've been polishing it for quite a while, too Any ideas?

yes when possible you should alternate at 90 degree angles on each step of polish work. this will help show you where you need more cutting if needed and break the pattern/ wave lines.
