Default new and looking for some advice

new here but been lurking for months , looking for some advice on making my shine shine more , on a budget!

ive got bits and pieces of polished metal under my hood i've polished by hand eek that took for ever , with the exception of my valve cover all were done by hand with mothers mag polish .

ive got all the pieces with some good shine but you can tell its not a pro job on some bits. what would you reccomend a cheap ass like me to bring a littl emore shine.

well, spending a little money on buffing supplies and a cheap bench grinder will save you alot of time sanding by hand, although it probably won't eliminate it completely on some pieces. plus you won't spend as much on sandpaper and mothers lol. just to start out, get some black compound(emory), brown (tripoli), and white rouge. those will take care of alot of stuff. if you need something a little more aggressive get some greaseless compounds, but since your stuff is already polished quite a bit, you may not need that to start with. then get a few spiral sewn wheels. one each for black and brown. and one each for any greaseless compounds you get. get a loose cotton wheel for the white. this should get your stuff over that hump from almost to all the way.

looks good so far by the way.

You want to use a loose cotton wheel with the white bar...a spiral sewn might be alittle too aggressive and wont give you the shine you are wanting.

But, you can give it a try and see what your results are.

that is not always true. i have found from lots of hours in the shop polishing, that on most aluminum the loose white combination is not the end all. i get a better shine with the spiral and white. i also use red and spiral. the loose wheels can cause a slapping action on the part that can actually cause more haze/scratching than the more solid face of a spiral.

Now that makes sense. I've noticed the "slapping" marks from a loose, but never thought to use a spiral.
