Default Polishing in tight corners - which tool?

Tried a search but had no luck!

I am using a Dremel tool to do the cleaning and polishing on this headlight motor off a Mazda RX-7. What attachments would you use to get into the tight corners to sand it down ready for polishing? It dosn't need to be a mirror finish, just nicer than what it is currently!

For an idea on size, the nut in the top pic to the right and the bottom of the lower pic is 8mm.

Dremel makes a little cylindrical felt bob with a hole in the center - I use it with the mandrel with a screw run into the end - if you run it in far enough, you can use the tip of the bob. You can also get felt bobs pre-mounted on 1/8" madrels. You can shape the felt on a piece of sandpaper if necessary. Then there's also the very small wheels (yellow treated last longest).

Use these with greaseless compounds to smooth, then the polishing compounds to make it shine.

Perhaps someone else can comment on Cratex (rubber) tools - I haven't tried them yet.

mr_rotary,

If you just want to clean it up, I'd try some Comet and a toothbrush. It will probably be abrasive enough to clean the aluminum up some. If that doesn't polish it enough try what mpierich suggests! Clean it with Dawn dish washing liquid and water when you are finished.

i got some 12mm felt bobs from ebay. and the same guy i got them from sells much smaller ones. caswell ought to get these, they're really small and do good in tight spots.

hello there.
RE:Perhaps someone else can comment on Cratex (rubber) tools - I haven't tried them yet.
i recently aquired a set from ebay, with a mixture of course and fine in both curculat and pointed tip, the big let down with the pointed is that they don't last lond befor the point erodes but you do get enough in a set. as mentioned by the experts the felt bobs are great and can be easily sanded to shape in conjunction with greaseless compounds.
take care and happy polishing.
