i'm trying to polish a throttle body for a guy and i've tried a couple times to load some greaseless onto a felt bob and use my flex-shaft, but the greaseless just isn't working like it does on a wheel. i let it dry for several minutes just like on the sewn wheels, but when i try to do anything with it, it just makes a smeared mess instead of removing any material. any thoughts? i've been using emory and it's working, but takes forever to get the casting out.

If it "smears" it's probably not really dry. It can look dry on the outside but not really cured. I use an old hair dryer to make sure. Be sure to let it cool some before you use it - the heat may leave it a little soft.
Can't think of another reason for your problem. One thing I do is to cut slits in the bob, lengthwise with a sharp knife or hacksaw blade - not real deep, but enough to give the surface some tooth for the compound to stick to. Maybe your greaseless is sliding off the bob. |

alabama_lowlife,
mpierich: good tip on the felt bobs! Try getting some 1", 1 1/2" or 2" buffs either treated or untreated and put greaseless on them. As far as the casting marks go. I would try a diamond finger nail file! It cuts aluminum real quick so be careful as to not put to much pressure on it. Finish that with 150, 220, 320 grit paper on a sanding block, then use your greaseless. Load up about 3 or 4 buffs with greaseless that way you will be able to work longer. Let us know how you make out! John |
