Hi All,
I just got a set of used chrome wheels. They have some oxidation and surface rust. Can you guys suggest the route I should take to get these cleaned up. Open to all remarks. Thanks in advance! Here are some pics. http://tkfiles.storage.msn.com/x1pl9...oIQvBeckXK0c0o http://tkfiles.storage.msn.com/x1pl9...m6S-f7-nnFgkYw http://tkfiles.storage.msn.com/x1pl9...oIQvBeckXK0c0o |

honestly, with chrome wheels that are rusting and corroding, the best bet is new wheels. you could get them re-chromed, but that would cost as much as new wheels. you can clean them up a little with some regular chrome polish, but that won't undo any of the damage.

hello m8, alabamba lowlife is right about getting new wheels, i bought what i thought were gleamin 18" wheels for a BMW, but they turned out poor like your wheels, i ended up selling them as a loss some time later, i contemplated keeping them and practicing my newly learnt skills off this forum, but sence prefailed, i was quoted more to get them re chromed.
if you want to use chrome cleaner they may look better but i feel the time and effort isn't worth it.i forgot to ask the experts on maybe getting them powder coated...what problems there would be etc, but if ya have the money why not get them re chromed if you like them.i love Bigdogs work with his wheels. http://forum.caswellplating.com/phot...php/photo/1075 oh well enough of me rambling on and on.take care hope you make the right decision. grommit |

ronin993,
Try cleaning the rust off with 0000 steel wool. You probably won't be happy. Next I would suggest that you have them stripped, media or chemically then polish or powder coat. John |

I added a few shots of my wheels after some work I did.
Much better then the before shots but I still need some help with the pitting and the oxidation. Can anyone give me some ideas on how to get rid of this stuff.. looks like cancer. Thanks again! Here are some pics of the finished product: ![]()
